Florida Intercultural Academy Overview
Broward County is an evolving, eclectic community composed of people with diverse
ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Together, these parents and others
in Broward County will build the Florida Intercultural Academy where unity in diversity
is celebrated.
The Florida Intercultural Academy (FIA) opened as a private charter in the fall
of 2005. FIA is a free, public school. There is no entrance exam or tuition. FIA
received its charter from the School Board of Broward County in December of 2004.
FIA is open for K through 6th Grade 2007-2008. Middle Grades 7th
and 8th will be added subsequently.
Neighborhood schools are too big and suffer programmatic deficiencies. Frustrated
with such lack of opportunity, parents throughout Broward are voicing full support
of charter schools. FIA parents and students will experience the feeling of a private
education within a
tuition-free school.
The primary role of the elementary school is to provide an education in the basics: reading, writing, and mathematics. FIA goes a step further by preparing our students to be prepared to be citizens of the world. We create multicultural classrooms in which all students are active learners. Our multicultural program combines teaching students about world cultures with the talents of our diverse student population. Our lessons will be imaginative, engaging, and incorporate many different methods of learning.
Our program of multicultural education is a part of the Broward
Schools District policy.
